Appreciation

After a long winter, we are soaking in these glorious Spring days. Some are hot, hot, and some are cool, but it's good. I'm taking as many photos as possible. Before we left for Reese's soccer game, I asked Zoe is she wanted me to take the camera to take pictures of her, and she said yes. Um, yay! I take the girls photos often, not just for my own personal collection, or theirs, but for to stimulate my creativity for the better of my business. To say photography is an oversaturated market would be an understatement. There are many good photographers out there, many that follow the Pinterest-y trends (which are sometimes trends for a reason, right? Some are overdone though.) I strive to think outside the box,  get out there and shoot from different angles, different perspectives. It's very satisfying to get out of a rut.
We just took some photos at the park during practice, and then I watched Reese play. She worked hard,  had fun, played awesome, and made me proud. :)

Maternity Photos

My sweet friend Sophie, who owns Raw Footage Photography, took some lovely photos of my growing bump the other week, while Spring blossoms were still plentiful. I was really excited about these since I never had maternity photos taken with the girls. I still plan to get some naked belly shots when I get bigger. Anyway, here are a few of the photos. The hand on belly shots make me a bit sad though, as I lost my engagement ring a couple months ago, and when I look at the photos of my hands, I get instantly sad that my ring from Dave isn't in the photos. :( (The one in the photos is a ring that belonged to my grandmother. It's special too, but it's not my engagement ring.)

Weird Ideas

I drive past random things sometimes and think "Oh, I want to get the girls picture in front of that!" Gas stations, random run down buildings, colourful doors...you name it. But usually we just keep driving. It's just a thought, never an action. So naturally since there was a digger sitting on our property yesterday (a nice, bright green one), I wanted the girls picture by that, but they weren't home. Today it was gone. So I settled for the white one and a trailer because I just wasn't going to waste another opportunity. Reese wanted to take a picture for her Ipad too. She was excited about that, and I was excited about that too because it pretty much means I am helping to teach her to think artistically and outside the box. When people ask me for location ideas for photo shoots, I spew off the names of local parks or popular spots for photography, but inside, I'm itching for some different. My true response for a good location is pretty much anywhere- your neighbourhood, your backyard, even the half built condos nearby seem interesting to me. I had strongly considered having a family photo taken on our lot before we built here. It was this nagging feeling, even though I felt it was silly, and I was nervous about what I would do with the photos if our dreams never came true, but now I regret not doing it. We get a lot of people asking if we have taken pictures of the process, and Dave's response is that we don't want to remember it like this. And that's mostly true, but I still wish we had a picture of us here, on our soil before it became a house.

My (Almost) Finished Kitchen

I am so excited about my long awaited kitchen. Just a couple more details and it's DONE! (I have a fun backsplash to add to give it some spunk.)

Soccer

The girls had their first soccer games this week. They seemed to enjoy themselves, despite Dave and Reese's extreme disappointment that at 10, her league is still co-ed.
