Summer Time! (and some random pics)

This is a live dragonfly, just so ya know (dad). ;)

Today was the first official day of summer vacation. It was good. We celebrated the end of another school year last night by going out to Pizza Hut with friends and then joining the summer reading club at the library. The girls are hooked already and we had to go back to the library this morning. I hope this is a sign of a fun summer ahead. The girls are having their first summer sleepover together tonight. I've found myself in an in-over-my-head-painting-my-kitchen-project. It should be occupying my time right now. I thought I do a quick post though. I have no new pics because I am having some trouble getting the old ones off my card. A post is just no fun without some pics of some kind though.

$2 Tanks, Embellished

I bought these embellishments on clearance at Michaels. I envisioned them on some cheap little tank tops, paired with a fun skirt. I got my wish when Old Navy's $2 tank sale arrived this weekend.

I am still going through my family reunion pics. I thought this one was cute. I decided to give it a fun, artsy look. I have a couple more like this, but I haven't had a chance to look at them yet. I have nothing interesting to say, as I am kind of (very) cranky right now. I lost my wallet (or rather half of it, long story) and that kind of stuff just makes me irritated, naturally. I am probably going to dwell on that source of irritation for a while. I would love to be one of those optimistic and cheerful people, but I usually find myself reverting back to my cranky ways pretty quickly. ;)
I had to come back to edit this otherwise cranky post because I just checked my email and I had an email that totally made me smile and laugh. It was one of three sent from Dave's phone today by Reese. Here are the good parts:

Subject: I love phones I want one. Please. I will be good for you.‏

Tell me what you think of that? Did I tell
You how Pretty you are.
Ha. As if that was going to work, right?!

Family Reunion

Yesterday we had our family reunion. I took lots of pics, but mostly just of the little kids. It is just kind of weird putting your camera in an adult's face. ;) Occasionally I'll sneak a picture of an adult, but I won't post them. ;) Anyway, I always seem to have fun at any event where I can take pictures.

Six Peas

Some animals have been nibbling at my garden. They seem to particularly like the peas. We did manage to save three pods and six peas. I ate one. Zoe ate five. I guess you could call me the taste tester. (Reese wasn't home). I call this success. Me= gardener, farmer, or whatever you want to call it. I did grow peas and all. (This may seem like a stretch, but I just call it celebrating the small successes.) Here are a few more pics from our holiday, which will probably be occupying this blog space for most of the week. And yes, there's a little fleck in one of those pictures called me, making a rare appearance on my blog. That big blob above me is called nigh-nee (Zoe's blanket) and her appearance is hardly rare in photos.

A Little Fairy in the Sun

I had big plans for my little fairies. We were going to have a fun little photo shoot in the sun, complete with some sun flare. Well, you know how it goes. Things rarely go as planned! One little fairy didn't want to be a little fairy that day, and the other little fairy was easily distracted when she spotted a friend on the dock. All in all, we had a nice vacation. The first couple of days were those of perfect weather, balanced by maybe a couple too many indoors, but that's okay- it was still nice. :)

See Y'all

These are a couple collages I made earlier this week. I've got nothing for today. We are packing up and heading to Muskoka. I can't wait to take pics on the beach. Be back soon!

The Good, the Bad, and the Biggest Smile

Hear are some things that were rockin' about today: Zoe went to preschool, I got some new things (pictured above) at Homesense and Winners, I went to watch Reese sing at school, and Zoe had an afternoon playdate at a friend's. Having some free time and getting to enjoy my children are the good parts of staying home. The downside for me is not having a lot of cash flow, resulting in stuff like duct taped cars (only a slight exaggeration. The duct tape didn't hold). But then today I get to experience things like the super awesome- Reese had the biggest smile on her face during her Spring concert as she spotted me at the back on the gymnasium. And that is good. Really good.

Milk Carton Dollhouse

Yesterday we made this milk carton dollhouse. Just for fun. Well, it was mostly me and Zoe making it because Reese was making her own "Reese's Not Bummer Summer" thrill chart, and only did the occasional gluing for the dollhouse. It could have been a great lesson on measuring, right? Oh well.
We are also raising tadpoles. Until yesterday, it was more like killing tadpoles. We've now read up a bit on caring for them, but unfortunately it was too late for the two baby frogs. :( They did not die in vain. Hopefully now we will be able to keep the rest going. If some are lost, I guess that's only to be expected. In our frog research last year, we learned that only a very small percentage of tadpoles make it to frog life. That's the way it goes...

Reese's school went on a field trip today. She didn't want to go, and I really couldn't bring myself to make her. I think I would be a hypocrite if I did make her go, as it was a baseball game and when my elementary school went to a baseball game, my mother didn't make me go. So she stayed home and we had a great day. The girls were being so ridiculously cute together this morning that I wanted it to never end. But my favourite part was the little note Reese wrote and put in Zoe's preschool snack- about how she loves her and she is the best, and to please be good for her teacher. That melt my heart, I tell ya.

Pencil Case

Yesterday I finished up a little pencil case for Reese. I put it amongst her things, but she hasn't spotted it yet. I also made bath salts yesterday- a first for me. It is super easy. I tested them out and they smelled great. I used orange essential oil because I like orange, and it's the only essential oil I had in the house. I bought the orange scent for my laundry soap, although you can't really smell it on the clothes.

The Weekend

Zoe- running, laughing, sulking, and waving. This will most likely be a typical day in Zoe's soccer season.

This weekend Zoe had her first soccer game. It wasn't supposed to be the first, but the others have been rained out. It's okay with me because to be honest, I don't love rushing to soccer on Saturday mornings. And as you could probably predict, soccer with a not-quite-four year old is kind of a mix of good and bad- you know, the joy of running and chasing the ball with the other kids, followed by tears because you can't find the ball with your name on it. That kind of thing. Anyway, I look forward to watching her progress throughout the season. I am sure it won't be dull.

Well. That Sucks.

My car broke down today when I was on my way to get Zoe from preschool. It broke down on a main road. Fortunately some kind men helped push it to a service station, and an awesome friend who was luckily nearby at the time helped me out. I was able to run in to get Zoe, and everything was working out, considering. Then Dave came to get the car, and in a rush on his lunch didn't tie the hood after charging up the battery again. The hood flew and hit the windshield, which cracked it and bent the hood (of my freshly painted car). Awesome. (<---sarcasm) It's just totally sucky luck, and with the year we've been having (and particularly with these cars lately), I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Other than that, things have been good. My sweet friend and neighbour had Zoe over this afternoon and I was able to get my house in better order and de-stress a bit. And my dear friend Jessica (who has sadly moved away) came to visit. We took the kids to the school Fun Fair tonight and they ate some serious amounts of sugar.

Greetings from a Very Slacky Blogger

Here is Zoe playing with my new toy, a Flip video camera. I love it's portability and anticipate much fun with it in the future. The weather is so good. We've been having lots of fun. Hope everyone is enjoying this great weather (assuming you're having it too!)

Monday, June 6, 2011

I gave these pics their own post to see if it'd work, and it did. I took these pics last night of Dave and the kids enjoying the trampoline. It was all fun and games until Dave ripped a 10 foot hole across the netting. I had him stitch up this hole with embroidery thread himself, just to make sure he was the one to learn a lesson, and not me. ;)

A Few Weeks...

Reese playing with a friend at Dave's soccer club
This was the only photo I could load tonight, unfortunately. After that, it was all "internal errors." Boo.

It's just a few weeks until summer vacation starts for the kiddos. We are evidently people who are really enjoying this weather. For a long time I had been anticipating the day when I could enjoy some freedom from the neediness of a young child, and with each summer I expected it to get better, as Zoe gets older. Things never quite go as planned though. Zoe has been a lot different than we'd expected her to be at nearly four years of age. I have little doubt that she'll always keep us on our toes. This morning, with a big smile on her face, she hovered over our garbage can and took a pee. Her sleep patterns have been irregular lately- with night waking, and early waking, and never knowing quite exactly what time she's going to wake at. I am sure she just wants to keep us challenged. And it's working.

Weekend Post

I apologize for this almost pictureless, quick post. It's Sunday night and we got the kids to bed late. I feel a little guilty about almost skipping my new workout routine so I'm just going to do it- as soon as I finish up here. We had a pretty full weekend, including a little camp fire for roasting marshmallows yesterday evening. The marshmallows were a little much for Zoe to handle. She can't quite restrain herself when it comes to sugar!

The girls insisted I get their feet in this pic (bottom right). I guess since they were willing to let me take their pics, I hadto compromise. We took these yesterday before swim class. After class we had a nice evening and the new splash pad by our house and Dave brought pizza for us to eat at the park. The weather is definitely being good to us.
