I Heart Faces- Best Face in January 2011 Photo Challenge

I did a quick little photo shoot with the girls tonight for this one. I will post more pics from it tomorrow. I had fun with this one. It was a last minute thing, but I was happy because guess what?! They were cooperative and willing to play along!

Princess Matter School

Reese and Zoe played so nicely yesterday. It was a really nice change of pace because quite often they do not play so nicely and it drives me quite crazy. We stayed at home all day, as opposed to the day before, where we went out for most of the day because they were driving us so crazy.
It was good.
Reese was teaching Zoe to be lady-like. She sent Zoe to various training schools, including "Princess Matter School," whatever that may be. And Reese was quite bossy. This is very typical of Reese. Maybe she will be a "boss" someday?

The Cutest Snowman

My children can extend a simple five minute walk home from the school bus stop into a half hour event. I brought my camera along because I have a lack of outdoor pics, do to my strong feelings towards winter and the cold. Reese told me I need to "get into the spirit." I think she must get all this optimism and positive thinking from her teacher because she certainly doesn't get it from me. She also told me, after Zoe knocked over almost an entire HUGE bottle of coffee cream all over my freshly washed floors, that "at least you still have some left." Oh, okay. In hindsight I will look for the humor in it- I guess that would be that it happened yesterday and not today. Ha.

Zoe grabbed this hunk of snow, and lucky me, it looked just like a heart.
See the looks I get? Fabulous.

Zoe had to watch Reese from indoors after she became a little to soaked to play outside anymore. She insisted on splashing in every slushy puddle in her winter boots. I think it's time for something like Bogs.

I may be biased, but I think this snowman is the cutest. She tried to use icicles for the arms, but they wouldn't stick so I gave her straws. She needed the perfect sized hat, and of course a cute little scarf. We were out of carrots so he has a button nose to match his eyes. Reese had to wear my gloves to put all those little buttons on because that can get tricky with mitts.

Have a happy weekend!
Love a freshly optimistic Laura, who is going to "enjoy" all the coffee cream spills and cold spells of the day. :)

Photo Art

These pictures were made using buttons, scrabble tiles, and Monopoly houses. Well, actually the red ones are the hotels, but we'll just pretend they're houses because I like them better than the little green houses.

Maybe it's because I "Love Love," but I really like anything in photography that involves hearts. Dave likes to tease me because I get all giddy when I watch t.v. and there is love involved- ANY type of love. The girls needed some pencils so I bought them these Valentine's Day pencils. As you can see, I've been playing with my extension tubes. Good times.

I Heart Faces- Weekly Photo Challenge

Just for fun, I decided to pick a picture for the weekly photography challenge at The theme is "innocent wonder." I picked this one because a) it was one of the first pics I could find that fit this theme, and b) because it's a bit different. The pic had to have a face in it, and it does, it's just not the focus of the pic. This pic is of Zoe last summer, checking out a strawberry with some bad spots.

A Week of Deception

So there is really no deceiving involved here. At the very least I'll tell my kids after eating something what they've just eaten. I don't even need to sneak veggies in their food because they'd rather just eat their veggies plain (or with dip). But I had fun anyway, making as many recipes as I could this week from Jessica Seinfeld's Deceptively Delicious Cookbook. I just have the original one, but if you have the new one, I'd love to hear your opinion. Over the past week I've made the mozzarella sticks with cauliflower, banana bread with cauliflower, eggs with cauliflower, pancakes with yams, mac and cheese with cauliflower, and applesauce muffins with carrot. I'll eat them all, but the kids really just like the dessert like foods- like the pancakes and banana bread (surprise, eh?)

Someone didn't want her photo taken, apparently.

Reese's Room

Here are some pics of Reese's new room. We are still working on it, but most of it is finished. These are a few of Reese's painting that we have save over the years. The "line" is made from coloured paper clips. We used to string it between two walls. I picked up the "Rock Star" sign off the clearance rack at HomeSense this week. It was perfect because Reese said she wanted a Rock Star Room. This is the third time we have painted Reese's room, and while stuff like the moon and star lights on her walls don't really match anymore, we keep them up anyway.

Strum a Tune

Reese got a guitar for Christmas. Apparently Dave is teaching her how to play "Farmer in the Dell." Here she is practicing.

Medicine Ball

(This pic was taken in front of our plasma fireplace in a dark basement at nearly 11:00pm, with no flash and an ISO of 1600 on a Canon Rebel Xsi, in case anyone is wondering. ;) Shutterspeed 1/125, f1.8. I am only sharing this because I am always curious about a pictures "stats" myself. )

So I thought I was supposed to work tonight. I went it in, and it turns out I'm working next weekend. Dave asked me if I was embarrassed. But I was not, and I explained to him that I probably wasn't embarrassed because this kind of stuff is so typical of me, that I am just used to it and brush it off. It wasn't a big deal, just kind of annoying because I was prepared to do so. I just came home and painted the rest of the polka dots on Reese's wall instead, and enjoyed the rest of the evening. I should add that I have never actually shown up to work when I didn't need to before, but similar stuff- yeah, for sure. ;)
Then I tried to take some pics of my reflection in the fireplace. It was just random. I tried to balance my new medicine ball that my awesome hubby went out of his way to get for me this week. Unfortunately it is because of stuff like this that I have no argument when I tell Dave he does too much for the girls- like bends over backwards for them. He will just turn to me and say, "but I would do this for you..." Okay, enough said.

Tutu Love

It was so cold out today and now I am really missing summer. I miss the warmth, but I also miss summer photography. I am feeling very uninspired right now.
Reese's "BFF" and her little sister came over for a play date tonight. I could have taken a million photos of these two cuties, giggling endlessly with Polly Pockets, in Zoe's pink tutus. But of course it's night time in our "dungeon" basement and that just sucks for picture taking. Summer, come to me!

Planet Box

Yesterday the children got their new Planet Boxes in the mail. They love their new lunch boxes, and I hope they get many years of use out of them.
Something is wrong with our computer monitor and it's not registering cords and cards. As a result, I had to eat a bag of Fritos. My pictures are uploaded at least, but it is too late for the Fritos...

I have no idea why this image is rotated sideways, or how to get it back for that matter...

P.S. Those are dried garlic peas in the lunchbox- just thought I'd point that out in case anyone wonders why I would put wet peas on top of crackers. I was trying to be creative. Those were the squirrel's nuts. ;) Reese had me remove the squirrel though. She was disgusted when she saw a piece of cheese in her lunch, apparently.

A Good Day

I know I sound pretty shallow, but a good day to me usually involves sleeping, shopping, and some kid free time. Today I woke up, looked at the clock, and discovered it was nearly 9:00 am. In a panic, I checked on Zoe and she was fine and sleeping and didn't wake up until 9:30! So that's a good start.
I was going to clean the house while Zoe was at preschool, but I needed to pick up an ingredient for dinner, and then I found myself at the Jacob outlet (which is closing January 23rd), and everything was 70% off the lowest ticketed price so I walked away just $54 lighter, and with a LOT of clothes. So if you live here, check out those deals before they are gone. ;) You really can't beat $3 sweaters.
I couldn't resist taking this pic of Zoe getting ready for preschool.
She wore two hats quite sensibly today- as she needed the purple one for style, but had to have the blue one on for warmth until she arrived at school. ;)

Valentine's Day Banner

Yesterday we made a Valentine's day banner to replace our Christmas banner. It was a great boredom cure for my bored, whiny children. Zoe worked at her for just over half an hour, which is quite impressive attention for her.

Please Help Me Fulfill My Dreams of Winning an Ipad. Oh, and Earn Some Cash on Your Online Shopping ;)

So yesterday I decided I want an Ipad, but it is really more of a dream because Ipads are pretty expensive if you ask me. And today I got an email from Ebates that if I can encourage 50 people to use their site, I will win an Ipad. So I am shamelessly begging people to use my referral because I really want one and this may be the only way I get one. I just started using Ebates recently when I discovered that not only can I get cash back for my Ebay purchases, I can also get cash back for my Gap/Old Navy Canada online purchases, and my Groupon , which I wish I'd known a while ago since I've shopped on these sites quite a bit. Oops. I realize the likelihood of me getting enough referrals to get an Ipad is slim-to-none, but hey, if you shoot for the moon, I've heard you should at least be able to land among the stars. ;)
And if you do join- thanks, I would greatly appreciate it. And I hope you get lots of cash back! (Which probably means you are shopping to much, but I won't judge. ;) )

Zoe's Wedding

Yesterday after school, I made the family some chocolate chip banana bread. Oops because I forgot I had no eggs... yay for applesauce!

And I made myself this super easy banana pie (that my lovely friend Jess taught me to make). Fortunately for me, no one else in this family seems to want any. It is not so fortunate for my waistline though, which is already wearing half the pie.

This is how I turn a package of on-clearance-Christmas-wrapped-Sugar-Cookies, plus a large bag of 80 cent Christmas M&M's into "Valentine's" cookies. I was too lazy to even cut heart shapes, but nobody really cares. Dave will be the happy recipient of a bag full of green M & M's.

Giant icicles that the child is later seen munching on...ew.

Zoe almost got married today. The groomed backed out at the alter because he was "too tired." Still, she made a lovely bride.

"In the Lines"

I don't know why it is that I, or anyone else for that matter, really cares that much about colouring in the lines. I think of all artistic talents, colouring in a colouring book is probably one of the least creative forms. But still, I guess it's some sort of milestone when your child is actually attempting (at least) to stay within the lines. Zoe is definitely an outside the lines kind of girl. Yesterday when I picked her up from preschool I couldn't help but notice how her colouring was all over the page. So today we practiced. I just wanted to see if she could attempt to stay within the lines, and I am happy to say she was disciplined enough to try! She wanted to show her work to her preschool teacher because she thought "Miss Dana will be so proud." :)
