The "Bad" Hatter

Reese carved this pumpkin all by herself.

So the big night is here. Naturally, I want to snap pics of my crew in their costumes. But do I? No. Dave says they have to go. They rush out the door, leaving me behind, picture-less. Such a sob story, I know. So I wait around, giving out candy. About half an hour later, my crew is back! For candy. As they are walking away I asked if I could snap a few pictures. Dave tells me they don't have time, and as he is whisking my little red queen away, I snapped this one, lonely shot.

Party Prep

Two more hours until our Halloween party!

Pumpkin guts!

I think this was the easiest cake I've ever made. It didn't even stick to the pan! Lucky me.

We are decorating witches' wands...

...And ghosts

The School Costumes

I figured the kid's costumes were a bit awkward to wear to school. So Zoe wore Reese's costume from last year (Strawberry Shortcake), and I made Reese a Paper Bag Princess costume. I thought up that costume idea the other night. I was thinking of that, plus a dragon costume for Zoe, and how that would make a cute theme for them for next year. But the princess was the really fun part so I just had to convince Reese that would be a good costume for school. I was happy with how it turned out, but boy is it a pain trying to work with a giant leaf bag with the Walmart logo slapped all over it. Dave ended up turning the bag inside out.
Now I have to go get ready for our Halloween party tomorrow. I am making a pumpkin cake, but I am NOT piping the icing. I think I am giving up on piping...for now.

The Red and the White Queen

Tonight we took the girls to the annual Halloween party at the Children's Museum. The got to test out their Halloween costumes. I was quite happy with how they turned out. They are the Queens from Alice in Wonderland. When I was painting the heart on Zoe's lip I had a bit of trouble with the bottom point. I love noticing the little things the children inherited from their father. Zoe's bottom lip hangs over and she has a crease in her chin. She and Reese both have that and so does Dave. I think it's really cute, of course.

Pumpkin Sitting?

They are not just sitting on the pumpkins. They are pretending to pee on them. Hilarious girls. Hilarious. (Sigh).

Another Lunch

This morning I was just going to do a tiny bit of shopping while Zoe was at preschool. It turned out to be No Frills, Old Navy, Winners, Home Sense, and Dollarama, and then it was getting close to time to pick her up. Oops. You know how it goes? It was a great shopping morning though, and I found these cute silicone cupcake molds that I thought would be cute for lunch. I also discovered the Yummy Earth organic candies were half off for Halloween, which was great because I came to get those anyway! And then I bought a little more than necessary because they were on sale. Those are the Yummy Earth gummies in Reese's lunch box for tomorrow. I "cheated" a bit on this lunch though because the silly things were wrapped in little packages and Reese is on a litterless lunch program. I figured it won't hurt (just this one time). I cut some red peppers with my tiny Halloween cutters because I was feeling festive. I've heard a few people mention that their kids will eat more when prepared in a "cute" fashion, but Zoe isn't fooled. She was delighted to see her lunch, but she still only ate the parts she wanted to eat. (I can't get the pic of Zoe's lunch to upload.) I know it looks like I have a whole lot of time on my hands. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts because you just never know when your life will turn around and become super busy, I suppose. I like life at a leisurely pace. We were on our way out the door to gymnastics tonight and we opened the door to be greeted by a beautiful rainbow. I ran inside to get my camera and Dave gave me an "oh, come on." As in, was I seriously going to stop and take a picture? Of course I was!

"Nice" Stuff

When I gave Zoe this plate of strawberries and cucumbers (on the left), she said she likes when I make it "nice like that." So I tried to make her lunch cute too. I designed the food around the pattern on the plate.

Zoe made collages this morning. I needed to get rid of some magazines. While I was cutting out pictures, I was apparently reading articles too. There was something about fighting colds in there. So today there was lots of fruit, pro-biotic yogurt in our smoothies, and protein with our meals. ;)

Strawberry and Friends

Here are some pics of the girls from today. Reese drew a pic of Strawberry Shortcake and her friends, their homes, and a self portrait. Zoe wanted to get in on pic so I snapped the one of the left of just her. ;)
My mother in law came to watch the girls tonight so Dave and I could go out to dinner and a movie. Tomorrow is our seventh wedding anniversary. Reese picked out Dave's outfit for our date. He wore a pink, I mean coral, shirt. He looked cute. :)

12+ hours of my Life I would like back, please...

I spent over twelve hours (all of today, and some of yesterday), painting the joints of our kitchen/dining room ceramic tiles with "Grout Renew." I didn't like it so much, but once I started, I was determined to finish. We were all going to go to Kidzone in Kitchener today. It was a surprise for the girls. But they drove me nuts early in the day and Dave ended up taking them by himself (crazy boy). They were gone from 1:30-8 and I spent the ENTIRE day working on that stupid floor, despite the fact that Dave hated the Grout Renew even more than I did. I stopped once for coffee, and once to eat a bowl of Cheerios. Cheerios would not be my choice of dinner food.

We have a...

...Sunfish and a level 4 swimmer! I don't think Zoe cared too much about passing, just as long as she got a lollipop. I don't really think Reese cared that she didn't get a lollipop with her report card- just as long as she passed. I am so proud of my girlies. :)

Random Pics from my Kitchen

Come dinner time I still hadn't taken a single photo. Zoe went to preschool, I did some cleaning, and we went to a friend's for lunch and a play date. We picked Reese up and I started making dinner and snapped a few pics. And in case anyone is actually interested in knowing what these pics are, and can't tell, let me tell you. The first is my water with lemon, and the second is some wing sauce I made that is cooking up in my new, tiny iron skillet. I don't think Dave thought it was a practical purchase, but I wanted an iron skillet, and sadly could not carry a large one. Maybe I'll start doing wrist curls and then purchase a biggie. I threw in a pic of my cookbook there, and I figure most people will either find it enraging or amusing. I find it amusing, obviously. ;)

Alphabet Pretzels

The first time I ever made pretzels my husband was disgusted. He had this idea in his head that they would be like those highly processed pretzels that you buy at a pretzel stand. HA. Well, I still continue to make them for the children (and me). He won't touch them.

It's Almost Here!

We started hand delivering our party invitations today. The girls are so excited about their Halloween party. I forgot to deliver a couple invitations on the way home from gymnastics class. Organization is not my strong suit. I did work on THAT skill a bit today though. I feel more together once Tuesday hits and Zoe is back to preschool. I start to get my house back in order...a bit. I even started making a crazy shopping chart for Grandma, complete with pictures. Grandma is going to help us find some articles of clothing we want on her shopping trip to the U.S. More on that crazy chart later. ;)

On a Horse Hunt

I wanted to get some fall pics of Zoe today. I am going to practice, practice, practice, until I get enough good ones for my photo wall. We were going to go to the park for pics, but we ended up hanging around here instead, and then we decided to go look for the ponies. One day when I was out jogging I spotted a horse in a field. So I took Zoe to this farm today, but much to her disappointment, the horse wasn't outside. We are going to go back again later. Zoe refused to go without waiting for the horses for a while. So I took pictures of her while she went on and on with questions about the horses and other random Zoe curiosities.
"What do horses eat?"
" What do they wear on their feet?"
" I think maybe there is a pink pony. "
" What eats butterflies?"
"Where do the ponies sleep?"
"Where do they go when they get cold?"
"I think they get a blanket."

In an Effort to Save Time...Two in One

Due to my being gone for the weekend, I decided it'd just be easier not to post. Boy do I ever become more lazy and slacker-like as this project goes on, or what? Anyway, here are a couple of quick shots from our trip to the Science Centre on Saturday. And the last pic in of Reese flying off the porch at my parent's house. Now I just want to spend some time with my husband because after a week of vacation time, he sadly returns to work tomorrow. I will miss him. :(

Leaf in my Pocket

I saw this leaf while I was waiting at Reese's bus stop. I thought it was pretty so I put it in my pocket. When we got home, I took a picture of it hanging out of the pocket of my favourite coat. Reese complained that I should be coming inside and helping her with her "homework." I think she might turn out to be a pretty good student. I hadn't even had time to take my shoes off yet. Happy weekend y'all.

Big Earrings, a Purse, a Hat, and a Shopping Cart

My mother in law bought Zoe these clip on earrings and little purse at the dollar store on the weekend. They were picking out toys for the Christmas "shoebox" toy drive, but somehow, the girls also came home with a few new things for themselves. Grandparents, right? ;) If you ask me, these earrings look rather uncomfortable, but Zoe has been wearing them around for days, every chance she gets. She is a girlie girl and a feisty scrapper all in one. My dad bought this yellow shopping cart at a yard sale when Reese was a baby. I can't remember what he paid for it, but whatever it was, it was well worth it. Zoe loves it and plays with it all the time. She loves pushing her possessions around in it.
Zoe has been nice enough to let me pick most of her outfits for preschool so far. She has conditions of course- like she prefers dresses and leggings, and hates jeans and cords, -but she's been pretty good about letting me have my fun. When she gets home it's all her choice though, and that usually consists of something sleeveless, like this sweater dress. And then she had this hat on (backwards), and these giant, clip on earrings. So of course this was a good photo taking opportunity.

What's That Bzz?

I have had the opportunity to participate in a Bzz campaign for Burt's Bees Anti-Belmish Solutions. If you haven't heard of bzzagent, it's a word of mouth marketing site. They give you products to try, and you tell your friends about them. It's free to join, and you get free stuff! Fun, eh?
There are other products in the line, but these are the only two I have tried so far. I would like to try more, but apparently they don't carry this line at Shopper's Drug Mart, or at least the ones I have checked. So I will need to look elsewhere.
I am sure many of you are familiar with Burt's Bees. They are a more natural line of products, and they aren't tested on animals. I like the facial wash. It smells good, and it keeps my face clean. I have been using it for three weeks, and overall I'm pretty happy with it. My one complaint is that it is too runny. I would buy it again though.
I don't care for the spot treatment. As a pimple healer, it seems alright, and it smells nice (almost like black licorice, if you like that scent). It is soooo runny though. You can't easily apply it to just a "spot." I find these products non drying though. So if it does get elsewhere on your face, it's no big deal. It's just not my preferred type of spot treatment.
So I tried to keep this short and simple, but I think it's a bit long...sorry. I would appreciate any feedback- if you've tried it, if you haven't tried it, or if you'd like to try it. Also, I received some $10 off ( a $15 or more purchase) coupons if anyone wants one. Thanks for reading my review, if you made it this far. I need feedback for my bzz report, pretty please. ;)

What to Do with One Egg (and No Cocoa Powder).

So I am throwing in a pic from yesterday and a pic from today because I'm a bit behind on my project. But given that this is a self assigned project, I can do that. ;)

Yesterday I had only one egg left. I went to Shopper's Drug Mart on Saturday to get eggs, but their egg truck hadn't come yet. I always run out of stuff on a holiday. ALWAYS. This recipe is from one of my favourite cookie cookbooks. It's called One Smart Cookie. The recipes are lower in fat and smaller. So they are good everyday baked goods, if you ask me. This recipe isn't exactly like in the book though because I also couldn't find any cocoa powder. I must have been out of that too. Hot chocolate mix is apparently a suitable substitute. I learned that when the cookies were done. ;)

I was just working on focus here. This is the first year in seven years that we are not giving out treat bags for Halloween. This year I am just giving out Tootsie Pops....I think. It is hard for me to even fathom not giving out treat bags. The kids had to test out the Tootsie Pops. They approved.

Pics on Campus

Yesterday I took a few pics on campus. They didn't turn out quite as I envisioned. That's okay though. I can try again another day. I am a bit out of practice in this area because I take so many people pics, or just close ups and not a lot of scenery and landscape pics. I had the chance to do a bit of photography reading last night so hopefully I can practice applying that stuff soon.
And on an entirely different note, for those of you who aren't involved in Groupon yet, I'd like to introduce you.
They frequently have give offers at half price and sometimes even better. You can select a city, but if it's an online deal like this one, it doesn't really matter if you don't live in that city. You can still get the deal. Or if it's a chain store, you can check the specifications for that deal. I recently bought a Gap coupon on an American city link, but you could use it at Canadian Gap stores. Fun stuff. I really hope some of you will buy one of these cool "skin" Groupons because when I bought mine this morning they hadn't sold enough yet to actually complete the deal. So help a girl out, please, and get a cool skin so I can look down at a cuter Ipod everyday. ;)
