Summer is Winding Down!

It's hard to believe that summer is almost over already! Well, who knows how much longer the heat will last because boy, was it hot today. But when school starts, that's kind of the end of the summer for me.
The girls each got a new outfit in the mail today. They really love clothes, and I love to buy them clothes. So it works out. Well it works well for everyone except for Dave, who just gets to pay for the clothes. ;) Reese had to try her outfit on right away, and got really into "modeling" it. I don't even know where she learns some of these poses and expressions. It's kind of funny/kind of disturbing because she is growing so fast, and starts grade one next week!

My "Now or Never" rug

Yesterday we went shopping at Ikea. I wanted to get a rug to go under my purple leather chairs. I had seen this one online, and I really loved it, but I didn't want to spend too much so I settled on something else. When we got to Ikea, this rug had the "Now or Never" sign so really if I ever wanted this rug, I had to get it now. My sweet hubby said "yes." Ikea=good times. :)

Sunset through the car window

Of all the pictures I took today, I can't believe I selected this one. I guess I picked this one because it's a sunset and I could just pull it straight off the camera and leave it as is, without feeling tempted to play around with the pic. As cool as it might have looked a different way, it is what it is, right? I was always bored when I found sunset pics while flipping through pictures at my parent's house. They were always the most boring photographs. I guess they are really beautiful when you see them because I was very happy to see this on our drive home tonight, but as a photo? Well, I guess we've all seen a million sunset pics.

Please Excuse my Weekend of Slacking...

We've been gone all weekend and when I tried to post pics at my parent's house, the internet was down. So I have to get in a few quick pics before I get behind. These are from our family reunion, (Dave's side).

(Some awesome Bocce players)

A Card from Reese

Reese made this card for me and brought it to me while I was laying in bed. I guess that is an illustration of me being a bump on a lump, which accurately describes these last few days, as my headache has turned into a flu. Boo. Tonight was supposed to be my first day back to work, and when I called in sick this morning I was told that they probably couldn't get a replacement. So I asked them to call me if they could. Well, I managed to drag my butt down there despite Dave's protests. I regretted it before I was even got out of the driveway. And I regretted it the whole way there. And when I got there. I arrived early and about 10 minutes later my replacement arrived. Too bad nobody told me. Well, it turned out for the best because I couldn't have survived eight hours and there were piles and piles of paperwork to deal with. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel better.

Try not to be jealous...

I know I look super cool in this eye mask. I feel poopy today and I'm dragging my butt. Hopefully I will be miraculously cured tomorrow.
P.S. Sorry for the creepy picture. It looks like I have a mustache in this pic. I'm pretty sure I don't, but I guess I'd better check that out.

Monkey Cages

The girls painted some monkey cages today. I don't really have the energy to post anything else because I've had a horrible headache all day.

I Heart Bokeh Hearts

(some subtle bokeh "love" hearts, created with my homemade filter and light shining through a bush)

( more pronounced bokeh hearts created by my filter + a string of deck lights)

I've heard that some photographers don't care for cutesy stuff like "bokeh" hearts, but you know what? I don't care. I love 'em. The pics of the girls are from yesterday, which was my first day experimenting with them. The last photo is one I took tonight, just to show the effect a bit more. Tonight I took some pics of my neighbour's baby with them, and they are much more pronounced (than the ones in the pics of my girls) and I think they turned out really cute. I didn't ask about putting those pics on my blog so unfortunately I can't share those today.

Zoe wore some hair corkies today and the coordinating outfit. I know that is totally exciting and blog worthy news. But it only last for a couple minutes before she decided she didn't want to wear any pants. And then she decided she wanted to go swimming so the corkies had to go. But whatever, the corkies were cute while they lasted.

Yet another...

...Trip to McDonald's and last minute photo. We went to Costco today, went to see Nanny McPhee returns, and then to Playland for dinner. Zoe found Nanny McPhee too scary and had to keep leaving the theater with Dave. She doesn't care for loud noises. In the washroom she claimed that she liked the movie, but the popcorn was "too soggy." I guess she doesn't care for the added butter sauce either.
The children should thank me for convincing their father that they needed these Happy Meal toys. He later agreed that yes, they were a good idea. Madame Alexander dolls are pretty cool and all.

Self Portraits

We went to the soccer club today. I brought my camera to entertain myself. I pulled the camera out and then I remembered that I didn't put the memory card back in it. That sucks, eh?
Tonight Dave traced the girls so they could colour themselves. The caption on Zoe's pic suits her perfectly because she often says "my own self," usually used in the form of "I can do it my own self!"

Some Trampoline Fun

We had planned on going to Costco tonight, but just stayed home and played in the yard instead. I tried to set the pool this afternoon, but I didn't have much success because it was unlevel, and well, the water was leaking out everywhere. Up until that point, I thought I was doing pretty well. This situation may bring back memories of the time I attempted to dig up the backyard, not entirely successfully. Much like that time, my failed efforts led to Dave's successful efforts upon his return from work and now we have the pool up again. Yay!

Attempted "Fun" Lunch

I attempted to make lunch fun by putting the various foods inside cookie cutters. I think the children were confused at my attempted fun, and when Reese wasn't looking, Zoe switched up one of her cutters. THAT could have turned ugly, fortunately it didn't.

Shameless Promotion Post

This morning I got an exciting email and I got to see the book covers with Reese's picture. The books are available for pre-sale right now and should be ready for September 1st. They are super fun and by two sweet Canadian writers so I really think that every kid should have them. Or at the very least the titles,
"Imagining Me," and "One, Deux, Three." ;)

Does this collage make it look like Zoe's about to bonk Reese in the head with that ball? It's not an entirely inaccurate suggestion either because that's happened a few times, as you might guess.

Popcorn and a Movie

I bought these cute popcorn "bags" at the Home Sense Summer Clearance event. We've already gotten lots of use out of them.
P.S. Please excuse my child's dirty feet. It is summer and all.

Another Park and Splash Pad Kind of Day

Someone was being a huge computer hog tonight so I have to fit a quick post in before midnight. I am quite enjoying these "Polaroid" frames. Now that swim class is over, I'm in need of more fun things to fill our summer days. Since splash pads and parks are always a hit, we went with one of our favs. It was a fun afternoon, followed by swimming with friends.

I wanted to do some fun photo play today, but I realized that my Photoshop has not been installed since our computer issues. I usually use Lightroom, but sometimes when I want more creative control, I'll use Photoshop. You can probably tell from the shade of green that this kiwi is almost sickie ripe. Looks like we're going to be eating a lot of kiwi over the next couple days. I don't have a lot of time for picture taking today because my parents are coming to babysit, and Dave and I are going on a date. Yipppeee!

What Goes on After Dark

Last week my father in law was over and found a frog stuck on the window. He removed it before I got a chance to take a pic. Well, tonight was my lucky night. Really, what could be more exciting on a Saturday night? I was going outside to unplug my new deck lights, when I saw this amazing lime green frog stuck to the window. He's not the type of frog you see around here during the day. I didn't edit the colour because I wanted to capture him just as he was. Well, then I saw a whole lot of ladybugs on my window too. And that's when I saw the ones in the crack (sorry the pic is not very clear). Yeah, I'm pretty positive I know what was going on there. You can't see the movement in the pic, but I think it's safe to say that I have now seen ladybugs making "love." Apparently there's a lot of interesting stuff happening on my deck at night. Well, interesting to me anyway.

Busy Day

We've had a busy day today- lunch at Playland, some shopping for me, a trip to Norwest Family Funfest, and dinner at Pizza Pizza. I snapped a few quick pics of Zoe this morning because she was wearing this super cute new dress, but unfortunately you can't really see it in this pic. I love this little Jeep. I always wanted one of these so my dad bought it for Reese at a yard sale when she was little. It's gotten a fair bit of use by our two girls.

My Awesome Backyard Lighting

Last summer I took a photo of Zoe in the Backyard, and completely by accident, I noticed this super awesome glow of light from behind her. We get evening sun in our backyard, and tonight I decided to take advantage and play with it. Reese was being cooperative! However, she thinks posing means being some kind of teen pop star for the camera. Whatever, I'll take what I can get.
P.S. I didn't even know it was Friday the 13th today until I heard it on the radio at around 3:30. Then I looked up ahead of me to see the vehicle directly in front of me had a license plate that read something like "Fri 13th." Weird, eh?
